State Emergency Service Incident Control Centre

The community event at the State Emergency Service Incident Control Centre in Geelong this week provided substantial insight into the issues that Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) face on a day-to-day basis.

It was interesting to have it confirmed that most SMEs continue to be troubled with the same issues – but that’s also not surprising considering the risks faced by any single SME are 80% the same as all SMEs.

What we need to do is find a way to help SME leaders, owners, CEOs, and Chairs be comfortable with using a democratised approach, or the ‘shared economy’ to not only stand on the shoulder of giants (i.e. learn from the past and others), but also to accept that an 80% result is better than a 0% result – for now – and allow the organisation time and energy to get from 80% to 100%.

Rome wasn’t built in a day, and neither are resilient businesses, but we need all businesses to start, and start soon.
